God's Place

I am somewhere in higher elevation north of Barra do Pirai. We were invited to go to a church plant. We were tired and somewhat worn out from the previous days travel and teaching. But we went. I am so glad that I did. I kept hearing words like, "they are a simple people" and that it is a very disenfranchised area. What I saw and what I heard they were far from that in God's eyes. God is doing a great work there. The pastor shared that they had 19 baptisms this past year alone! That night they asked me ( I still don't get that part, I had nothing to do with this) to stand up with other pastors and issue certificates of ordination!

They were ordaining young people! Very young people! My eyes are tearing up as I write this because I think that this is great! They are taking Jesus seriously! I don't understand all of what is behind this but they are definitely serious about commitment and following Jesus.

This place was filled to the brim with kids. They had a drummer that made Buddy Rich look like an amateur. Ok, maybe not that good but he blew all of us away.  He looked like he was about 12 years old. They had dancers. They were the cutest kids and so serious about their dancing to glorify God. I looked at their outfits. Crudely sewn with whatever material they had but it didn't matter because God was showering his blessing on them. Their love for God and their expressions combined with powerful singing was almost more than I could take. God was in this place....BIG TIME!

All I could think of was, "What can I possibly tell them? I don't want to mess up what God is doing here." So I told them that whatever it was they were doing that they were doing the right thing and keep on doing it. The next night we were at the home church that planted that little church. I was visiting with a member there and I told him about our going there and this is what he said to me, "They are a simple people but God is doing something very special there." Even he saw it. I am so grateful that God has allowed me to see these things. We need to wake up in America and let God do what he needs to do and get out of His way!
