More Grandparents Raising Grandchildren

One of the changing social trends that is getting a lot attention these days is the increasing number of grandparents who are either raising or providing the majority of care and/or support for their grandchildren. According to a report released in early September, 8% of grandparents share a household with a grandchild and 2.7 million grandparents provide the bulk of their grandchildren’s financial needs. These numbers have been steadily on the rise for the last decade.

This is a ministry opportunity for congregations who want to help both the grandparent and the grandchild cope with changing family structure and relationships.  Here are links to four resources on learning more about GrandFamilies.
